The 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid is available in four trims: the base Blue, SE, SEL, and the top-of-the-line Limited. While many of its rivals adopt unconventional exterior designs, this car hides its eco-friendly credentials well in its neat hatchback body. It features one of the most well-balanced shapes among small hybrid hatchbacks. Its front end appears bold and handsome with its new mesh grille and angular headlights, while its rear end features a slightly curved spoiler and sculpted trunk lid for a sporty look. The car's sweeping lines also help improve its aero efficiency.
Engine
The Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid sports a 1.6-liter inline-four engine that generates 104 horsepower and a 32-kW electric motor for a combined power output of 139 horsepower. This powertrain pairs with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to send power to the front wheels. While it isn't speedy, this hatchback has a lively and quick acceleration because of its adequate low-end torque. The Ioniq Hybrid allows you to choose between two driving modes: Eco mode for better fuel efficiency and Sport mode for faster acceleration. It also comes with paddle controls to activate regenerative braking, which recaptures energy lost during braking. The car delivers a fuel economy rating of 57/59 mpg (city/highway), which is one of the best in its class.
Performance
Due to its compact size, the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq is easy to maneuver in crowded streets and parking lots, making it an excellent car for city driving. It also provides a relatively smooth and stable ride, thanks to its multi-link rear suspension and low rolling resistance tires. As for tech features, the Ioniq Hybrid comes standard with an 8-inch infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, HD radio, Bluetooth, voice recognition, and a USB port. For an enhanced experience, you can get available features such as a 10.25-inch touch-screen display, navigation, wireless device charging, and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
