Lot of Cargo for the Holidays? Check Out These 6 Packing TipsMost of us have at least one long-distance trip to make this holiday season. Not only do you need to plan for all of your gear for your holiday visits, but you also need to account for extra space should you receive any generous gifts.  If you plan on a lot of cargo for the holidays, then check out these six packing tips.

  1. Use an Overhead Carrier

One of the easiest ways to maximize space when traveling is to use an overhead carrier. You not only get to use the space inside your vehicle but outside of it as well. Your belongings will be protected from the elements, and you can rest assured they won’t blow away while on the road.

  1. Only Take What You Need

While this may be a little harder to do on a holiday trip, packing only what you need is an easy way to save space. Maybe wait to wrap gifts until you arrive at your destination so you aren’t trying to pack individual gifts in bags on the way there. On your way back, you might have some gifts of your own that you need to pack. If you can, unbox them and pack them into larger bags or boxes for the trip home.

  1. Use Soft Bags

Another way to maximize your trunk space is to use soft bags instead of hard luggage. Soft bags are able to conform to space they are packed in, which allows you to have more space. If you pack your clothes in these then you get double the benefit. If you store your heavier items on them then you can smash them down to fully utilize the space.

  1. Maximize Every Inch of Space in Your Trunk

If you are taking belongings for the whole family, then you definitely want to make the most of every inch of space. Pack in layers and pack in between gaps with smaller items you need to bring. This method will also help to keep everything organized and in place while driving. Items won’t shift around in your trunk as much when packed this way.

  1. Use Vacuum-Seal Bags

If duffel bags aren’t possible, or if you have too many belongings, then your best bet might be to use vacuum-seal bags. You can pack your clothes and bedding into these and then suck the air out in order to maximize space.

  1. Use Every Inch Inside Your Car as Well

If your trunk just doesn’t have enough space, you can use the inside of your car. Have your kids carry their personal items with them. These include items such as books, electronics, and maybe a small blanket. You can also use the space under the seats for more storage for items such as shoes if you need to bring them or snacks for the ride.

We hope that you are able to enjoy your holiday trips even more now that you know how to properly pack. Combine these for even better effect. Happy Holidays!
