The 2020 Hyundai Elantra Delivers High Gas Mileage Without Sacrificing QualityThe 2020 Hyundai Elantra is a practical, compact sedan that goes above and beyond when it comes to efficiency, quality, and safety. The following are just a few features of the 2020 Elantra that help take its high gas mileage and quality to the next level.

Intelligent Variable Transmission

Hyundai’s new intelligent variable transmission (IVT) is the number one feature that has made this little sedan a key competitor in the market. The IVT offers amazing efficiency while also giving this automatic transmission a manual feel with the ability to simulate gear shifts. The transmission modulates the pressure of its pulley based on the conditions of the road and the driver’s choices, which allows it to perform continuous shifts.

Its pulley system is perfected with a wide ratio, allowing it to operate on a broader ratio than most of its competitors. This combination is what allows the 2020 Elantra to operate with a greater fuel economy at higher gear ratios while still providing optimal performance in the lower ratios.

Another pro of the IVT is that it utilizes a chain belt rather than the commonly used push belt. The 2020 Elantra is the first compact car to go this route. With the chain belt, the Elantra’s fuel efficiency has increased by an additional 1.2% from the standard belt systems.

The new shift control strategy of the IVT helps create a smoother interaction between the driver’s inputs, the car’s behavior, and acceleration. Its amplified response allows it to act similarly to an automatic transmissions’ step shifts, giving the car an efficient, smooth ride.

Engines

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra offers three different engines depending on your model choice. The Elantra SE, SEL, Value Edition, and Limited all come standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with the new intelligent variable transmission. This engine delivers 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. The Elantra Eco has a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that gets 128 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with the seven-speed EcoShift transmission with SHIFTRONIC.

The Elantra Sport features a turbocharged inline four-cylinder 1.6-liter engine that offers 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Like the Eco model, it’s also paired with the seven-speed transmission.

The Elantra’s base engine, the 2.0-liter, delivers 31 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway, which is already great gas mileage. The Eco model offers even greater efficiency at 33 mpg in the city. The Sport model functions with a lower gas mileage of 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

Safety

Hyundai made sure not to sacrifice quality and safety while striving for superior efficiency in its 2020 Elantra. The following are the new advanced safety technologies featured in the 2020 Elantras:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.
  • Lane Keeping Assist.
  • Driver Attention Warning.

All of these safety technologies come standard with every model and are geared toward keeping you and other drivers safe on the road.
